Native to the wetlands of North and South Carolina in the United States, Dionaea muscipula has evolved a unique mechanism to survive in nutrient poor soils. Its modified leaves form natural traps that close rapidly when an insect touches the tiny sensory hairs inside.

This fascinating behaviour makes the Venus flytrap a very distinctive plant, often appreciated by people who enjoy observing nature’s most curious adaptations.

Carnivorous plants generally grow best outdoors where they can receive plenty of natural light and conditions closer to their natural habitat. However, they can also be kept indoors if placed next to a very bright window.

For healthy growth, Dionaea muscipula prefers humid environments, carnivorous plant substrate and watering with distilled water or rainwater.
