Something curious has been happening in many Portuguese homes (and around the world, actually). In recent years, green has gained prominence and... mini-jungles They were improvised inside houses and apartments. Awnings were transformed into greenhouses in the blink of an eye, and shelves ceased to hold only books, now housing vases of all sizes and shapes. In many of these spaces, greenery was born from a feminine touch: the hand that waters, prunes, and cares. Why?
Many young adult women live in large cities, in an urban context where neutral colors take up a lot of space and square footage is expensive. They grew up between grandparents' backyards and summer runs through the village, but adult life I brought them a one-bedroom apartment with occasional light and not very large balconies. The alternative for To reclaim that connection and create a small ecosystem where before there were only walls and screens, was to bring plants indoors.
The rhythm of the plants fighting the rhythm of requirement
Unlike women, who are more qualified than ever (working, studying, undertaking ventures, juggling multiple roles), plants grow slowly. They don't speed up because we're in a hurry, nor do they respond to last-minute emergencies. They need attention, undoubtedly, but they don't demand productivity from us. In a high-productivity routine, a movement like watering a plant is a moment of deceleration .
Growing with self-care
Accustomed to caring for others in their families, at work, and in their relationships, many women feel overwhelmed by routine, a constant and not always reciprocated level of care. Something similar happens with plants, but simpler: with the right amount of water and light, they grow and flourish. Caring for them is practical and controllable, bringing satisfaction and security. Each floor plan is a fun little project from which we can learn something every day!
The rebirth of a community
This boom A passion for plants has also brought about the creation of sharing networks on the subject among women, something that had been dormant. Advice and pots are exchanged, there are groups and pages dedicated to the topic, workshops, urban markets, and a surprisingly collaborative niche! If they feel lost, they can certainly find comfort in other people with the same passion for plants.

For many women, having plants at home creates a space that brings routine, organization, and a sense of simple care. Filling the house with plants allows you to occupy your own time, keep something alive, and feel that you can take care of something, even with busy schedules and gray cities.
