Stone pine

The stone pine, scientifically known as Pinus pinea, is an iconic tree in Mediterranean landscapes, where it is widely appreciated for its unique silhouette and the shade it provides. This pine can grow up to 25 metres tall, with a crown that spreads horizontally and takes on the characteristic shape of a parasol. The leaves are intense green needles, arranged in pairs, while its fruits – the well-known pine nuts – grow in large, round cones.

This tree is especially valued for its ornamental value and its production of edible pine nuts, which are rich in nutrients. It is also an excellent choice for those who want a low-maintenance, long-lived tree that will make a big impact in an outdoor garden.

The Stone Pine prefers a location with full sun and well-drained soil. Although it is quite drought-resistant, it is important to water it during the initial growth period, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. This tree adapts well to a variety of soil types, as long as there is good drainage, and tolerates both hot and cold climates.
