In its native tropical habitat in Southeast Asia, it is an epiphytic species that grows on tree branches and in rock crevices. The vibrant green foliage grows on hanging stems and develops small, delicate and peculiar red flowers at the ends that resemble lipstick. Hence its name "lipstick".
