About Cycas Revoluta

Cycas revoluta, popularly known as Cica or Garden Sago, is native to southern Japan and belongs to one of the oldest plant families, the Cycadaceae, which have existed for millions of years. This plant is highly prized for its majestic appearance, with a robust trunk that, over time, develops a rough texture, and for its long, rigid leaves that grow in a crown shape, giving it a palm-like appearance.

Traditionally grown in gardens and outdoor spaces, Cycas revoluta thrives in sunny, well-drained environments where it can reach its full growth potential. However, this plant also adapts well to indoor cultivation, especially in spaces with good natural light. Its sculptural form and slow growth make it an excellent choice for adorning gardens, patios or as a centerpiece in living rooms and entryways when kept indoors.

Despite its palm-like appearance, Cycas revoluta is more closely related to conifers, such as pine trees, than to true palms. This plant is extremely long-lived, and can live for many decades if properly cared for. Cycas is also known for its hardiness, being able to withstand adverse environmental conditions, making it a robust and easy-care plant.
